2.12. U.S. Treasury Securities

The United States government, and its various agencies, is the world’s largest debtor. Because the U.S. is so strong and has such a long history of political stability, securities issued by the U.S. government are generally perceived to be among the safest of investments, if not the safest investment, in the world. A U.S. Treasury guarantee of timely interest and principal payments is considered “as good as gold” by most investor
