Electronic Communications and Social Media

Electronic communications include websites, blogs, webinars, and social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. For regulatory purposes, electronic communications can contain static and interactive content, each of which have different rules associated with them. These rules were devised for broker-dealers and their agents.

FINRA defines static content as content that stays on the website until it is removed by the firm or the site’s administrator. Static content is usually available to all users of the site. For instance, profiles of representatives and background information on the firm are examples of static content. Interactive content refers t
